SELF-PORTRAIT PAINTING SALE

In October 2025, one of Sofia Laskari’s most significant works was sold following its participation in the Self-Portrait Prize 2025, organised by the Ruth Borchard Collection. The exhibition took place at the historic Russell-Cotes Gallery in Bournemouth and was supported by Vortic Art, where the work continued to receive strong online visibility.

The painting was acquired directly through its online presence, achieving the highest sale price in Laskari’s career. This milestone marks an important elevation in Laskari’s market trajectory and sets a new benchmark for her current price point.

The artwork itself holds particular importance within her practice: it is one of her few true self-portraits, painted from direct observation rather than through a character or constructed persona. Its sale represents both a meaningful personal moment and a decisive professional recognition of Laskari’s evolving artistic voice.

In 2025, Sofia Laskari was interviewed by Behind the Artist, an independent platform highlighting emerging voices in contemporary art. The feature delved into her journey as a figurative painter, her exploration of women’s representation, and the emotional intensity behind her large-scale works, offering insight into both her practice and the vision that drives it.

Self-Portrait Prize: Shortlisted Artist / Group Exhibition at Russel-Cotes Gallery, Bournemouth.

In 2025, I was selected as a finalist for the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize, with my work exhibited at the Russell-Cotes Gallery. The exhibition, presented in collaboration with Vortic Art, brought together some of the most distinctive contemporary self-portraits. It was an honour to show my work in both a historic museum setting and an innovative digital platform that expands the reach of contemporary portraiture.
